Let me start off by stating that this will only be of interest to a very small group of people. I am going to breifly speak on the day to day life of a professional poker player. I am not talking about the Phil Ivey's of the world. It would be great to have the life of Patrik or Tom Dwan. I am talking about the the guys who grinds it out at the 2-5 no limit hold' em table. The grinders who play 2-5 Pot Limit Omaha. This is meant for the type of animal who plays 60 hours a week, or more.
Poker at times can be a very cruel sport as you already know. It can at times cause self doubt and waves of depression if you allow it. How many times after a losing session, have you took that long lonely walk back to your car. The long walk that every poker has made numerous times where you have lost large sums of money. It is a hard thing to deal with. You may at times begin to doubt your ability. The numerous bad beats that you take over time. They can be hard to take at times. They can do major damage to your mental being if you allow it. They can cause you to be distant, or downright mean to your family or friends.
You have to ask yourself if you really love poker? I mean love poker with all of your heart. Whenever most of society may think you are a sick indivdual for putting yourself through this type of torment. You must be addicted to gambling, right? People outside of poker have no idea how complex the game of poker truly is. Only a person with good problem solving skills and extreme intelligence can be successful at poker. I tend to face these problems myself from time to time. I think you have to have a life outside of poker to be successful at the table. If all you have is poker, all of the down time and bad beats can be very difficult to handle. I love the fact that I have a supportive family. I have interests outside of poker to occupy my obsessive compulsive mind. If you truly love poker. You will continue to play and improve your game.
You will begin to make the transition from the break even player to the consistent winner you are destined to become. It will take lots of work and by no means is it going to be an easy task. The day will come when you will walk into your local card room and you will know that you are a poker machine to be feared. The day will come when it all turns around.
The day will begin as any other day. You will begin your session just like any other day. Then it will happen. It will all make sense. It will be as clear as the water in the carribean. You will be so confident at the table. Bad beats will be no big deal. You will know what cards your opponents are holding. You will understand game theory. You will have excellent bankroll management skills. It will be as if your session is in slow motion. Everything will be so easy to understand. It reminds me of the first Matrix movie. At the end, whenever Neo realizes he is the "chosen one" and you see him fighting through his own eyes and it is in super slow motion. He is fighting effortlessly with only one arm. It will be very similar to that movie scene in terms of grasping your unhuman like capabilities. That will be one of the greatest days in your life my friend.
The day that poker just makes so much sense, its almost scary.
