Can anyone beat anyone on any given day? Have you even given your best and it wasn't good enough?? Or are their other underlying factors such as umpires and referee's that can control the outcome? A poker dealer cuts the cards right?? Can we ever blame it on them??
Now usually I accept defeat pretty well, a "hey guys good game or a nice playing with you guys" is always common. Today of course was way different. We had a 10am game today in MAssachusetts, and I was pitching for my 25 and over team, the Cannons. Johnney and I showed up a little late, around 930. mainly because it was suppose to rain all day so we decided to party last night. Around 630am we left the bar and went to the diner, at this time Johnney said " looks like no rain buddy, you got to pitch in 5 hours lol" hey Johnney our game is at 10 not 12 hah We had a good laugh and went about our business.
Man it was beautiful out and I felt great for getting 2 hours of sleep. Well I felt great after 3 redbulls and a shitload of Advil. I havent lost a game in this league in over 2 years and it wasnt gonna start today. Well little did I know. ( pic on the right is from 7am this morning.)
After the first inning I was down 2-0. What the fuck was going on?? I struck out three batters, and didnt allow a hit. We had 4 errors in the field but hey I cant blame it on them , im the one pitching, fair enough!
Well in the bottom of the 2nd inning the shit show started. Im throwing strike after strike, right down the middle.... but all the umpire kept saying was ball ball ball. Mother fucker what is going on? This umpire is out to get us! Our coach got really pissed off and it was all down hill from there. We didnt get a call in our favor the rest of the afternoon. The benchs cleared twice. The first time after Johnney got hit in the head by the pitcher and was dazed for a little bit, and the 2nd came when I retaliated by hitting their pitcher in the back with a fastball. Well after that the umpire gave me a warning and told me if I hit another batter he would throw me out of the game. Fair enough I should of said but me being the punk I am, I let him have it! Lets see if this guys got any balls.
I hit the next batter in the back too and was expecting to get tossed out of the game but nothing happened! The umpire didnt say a thing! Eh oh well so I continued pitching. The game went on and the shit show continued. Fans from the other team moved to in back of our dugout and started taunting our bench. What the frig is going on here? are we getting punked? if there is one thing I learned today its dont taunt my guy Jimmy Shook. Well long story short and for underlying legal issues Jimmy made his point. God I hate Massusettes
Out of the 18 batters I faced , I struck out 13 and only allowed 3 hits the whole game. We still lost 4-0 but what can you do. Can I blame this on my team? no. Can I blame this on the umpire? no Can I blame this on the fans? no. Can I blame this on going out till 7 in the AM? eh no? maybe? Sometimes theres nothing you can do but tip your hat and say good game i guess. Situations like this I guess you just got to put the game behind you and hope you do better next time.
Are we so quick to blame others when things go wrong? Are we afraid to accept blame because we dont want to be known as the one who let the team down? Are we so afraid of failure? If failure only makes us better in the long run, why are we so afraid to embrace it? It only makes you stronger right? I cant but help thinking Carma bit me in the ass.
Accept failure, embrace defeat, make yourself better. Tomorrow is a new day.
