I must say that I have had a mixed start of 2010.

Both my winnings and my expected EV has been going up and down like a yoyo .....  Not the best thing - but it happens, and I accept this with a smile  :)

One of the things I have realized is that not all poker players accept and actually cheer for variance like I do.

Basically I do not thing most players up to NL400 has spend time thinking about the use of variance and what it bring to poker.

Yesterday one of my poker-friends called me and complaint (once again) over some bad beat and that he haded variance on poker. One of he frequents wish is that they will "invent" variance free poker. His point is that poker should stop when all players left in a hand is allin = no more play is left.

Then the money should be distributed based on once changes of winning.

This will completely remove variance.

And he is right !!

But he miss one important point !!!!

If every fish 9 out of 10 times comes in bad and every time only get the 5-25 % of the pot - the fish will very soon stop playing.

The fish is there because the can actually get lucky and book a nice win on one night - or a week.

So when they are broke (again) - they reload from there VISA and start playing again.

And this will stop if the fish wil never get lucky and beat our AA with JT ot 22 - or hit a runner runner str8 to beat our set ....

So I welcome variance in the game - and try to look at it as positive as I can.

I admit it ws hard at the start, but I do feel that I play better poker after having made this progress.

If a fish bad beat me I know he will play me again - and I can then earn my money back with interest.

This does not mean that I do not try to work on getting my variance down - I do. But I have accepted variance in poker and do not let it effect my play as it use to do.

Have a nice day  :)
