The Bet24 $10,000 Race we are running on Coinflip.com this month made me download Bet24 and check out the action on the Fixed Limit tables. I saw there was a 5-handed game going on FL $50-100 and being the curious person I am I monitored the game preparing myself for battle!
Running hot
It was a tough start at the rather aggressive table. The same player sucked out on me 3 hands in a row (literally) but I remained calm. When you play FL $50-100, which is a high limit for me, it can get costly quite fast and tilting early re-raising every hand would become expensive. I managed to handle the swings however and felt I had an edge – maybe I was just lucky. After roughly 200 hands I had made a profit of $8,000 and decided to stop. It was now 3 handed and the other two players where both good players so no point to continue.
Why I play Fixed Limit online
Since I started playing online poker in 2002 I have always preferred FL for numerous reasons. You can find some of them in random order below:
- When I started playing online poker, No-Limit Hold’em didn’t exist on the poker room I was playing.
- It is the game I started off with and with success.
- It is hard to put me off my game in FL.
- You can’t make one wrong decision which cost you an entire buy-in or two.
- Playing FL shorthanded is an action game – I love action!
- I do not like NL too much since you have to enjoy folding and folding and folding or playing HU which I am not good at in NL.
- I have patience when it comes to NLHE tournaments especially live tournaments but when it comes to online cash games I have to enjoy playing as much as enjoy winning. I do not play for the money so I am not going to sit and wait for hours getting a game started. I might do that if I decide to become an online pro but that would be a really bold move.
- Many players do not understand fixed limit. I think I do which gives me an edge.
- Not many players have specialized in FL because no-limit is much more “cool”.
- NL is a much bigger game worldwide hence there are a lot better players at this game. So I take the easy way out and stick to FL.
- I my opinion high stakes FL have always attracted some rich amateurs since they can play high stakes without risking their entire buyin in one move but still play for big pots and brag about it.
Those are some of my reasons for playing FL. I bet there are a lot of people out there who would disagree with me which is making poker such a beautiful game. It’s an easy game to learn but really hard to master. All players have their reasons to play the way they do so my advice is to keep focusing on your own game rather than trying to become Ziigmund or Durrrr overnight.

PowerPoker’s 3rd football match
Last week we played on my birthday and we made another great result. We won 16-3 making us the most scoring team in the entire Pentasia League. We played against Wagerlogic (InterCasino) who never seemed to have a chance against our line-up and since our fast passing combinations worked better than in our previous games we were unstoppable. I was nominated Man of the Match with 6 goals but it was a close call as David Barnwell was involved in most of the goals making him a great addition to our team.
