Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Erik Smith and I am CEO of multiple online gaming companies among Coinflip Limited. My blog will differ from the poker pros as this is a chance of getting insight in the crazy online gaming industry that I work in...

Background

I started playing poker when I was around 14 years old with my friends. We played multiple games of poker such as Five card draw, Spread limit hold’em, Chicago poker and other games. This was before online poker but I managed to find a set of rules for different poker games on the web. Funny enough we ended up liking Texas Hold’em the most not knowing it would become the biggest poker game in the world.

Traditionally Limit Stud Poker games have been bigger in Europe and the only games played at the casinos. Internet poker and the televised poker shows changed this trend and Europe is definitely on the map when it comes to NLHE which a fellow countryman Peter Eastgate proved by winning main event in WSOP ‘08. Furthermore having Gus Hansen, Partrik Antonius and Ziigmund playing the biggest cash games in world shows that it’s not only the Americans who can play the gutsy game of No Limit Hold’em.

From Copenhagen to Malta
In 2003 I started working in the online gaming industry. I became “poker expert” on a Danish site which became the biggest Danish casino & poker portal. I had been studying history at the University of Copenhagen one year when I got a call from the owner who asked me to become Director of his company on this little island called Malta. At the age of 21 I packed my suitcase and was “deported” to Malta since the Danish authorities was cracking down on online gaming operators and affiliates. I didn’t know a single person on this strange island in the Mediterranean. Until this date friends of mine still think I am in Cyprus or talk to me in Spanish thinking that I have learned Spanish now that I live in Malta!? To the readers who do not know Malta I can reveal that Maltese and English are the two spoken languages in Malta so phrases like “Que pasa?” and “Esta bien” are certainly not common here.

I left my Director post in the Danish company in May 2009 to climb higher mountains. After being employed for five months I was promoted to become CEO of 5 gaming companies within the same group where Coinflip.com is my sole responsibility. You might have noticed the layout have changed recently and a few details are still to be fixed before Easter.  We welcome feedback in the forum.

To those of you who have been with us from the start I want to thank you for your support! Ziigmund and the Coinflip crew appreciate all your comments, personal blogs, forum posts and signing up via our deals which help us to build the best poker community in the world.
