In games you sometimes have to do things you know is wrong to advance.
Worst case is that you're confirmed in that it was wrong.
Best case is that you realize that you were wrong in the first place.
To sum up my goals and guidelines for the last two months of 2010:
* First win 10BI at NL100 (then 10BI at NL200)
* Play 400 hands a day with high intensity and followup analysis
* 3-bet more and call less
* Bluff when you think your opponents range isn't strong
* Rather take it too far than being scared
This week I have played 2429 hands at NL100 which is about what I expected to do. The followup analysis takes a lot of time. The reason why I play NL100 now is that I don't want to lose too much money while testing strange lines and sick bluffs. It has been working and I have no problem putting all the money in on a whim if I think it will tell me something. At the moment I'm up 395 big blinds and I don't feel like I've been lucky. Yes, I know. Winning 8 ptbb/100 and not being lucky sounds a bit biased. As I see it I win an unreasonable big proportion of hands by putting a lot of pressure on my opponents which alone adds up to quite some ptbb/100.
Let's take a look at my stats. Before I was playing like 23/18/2.2 with a 3B of 5.6. This month I've been playing 27/24/5.6 with a 3B of 11.1. See that's a whole different story. I have divided this weeks hands into 3 parts as shown on the graph.
Part 1: (28/25/6.4, 3B=11.7) I was more or less randomly trying to find spots where I could bluff and I was trying to be more aggressive with 3B pre. I was surprised how much I could get away with.
Part 2: (28/26/3.8, 3B=11.5) In this part I bluffed as much as possible and tried to pound relentlessly on people that seemed to back down. I was also floating a lot and bluffing on later streets. No doubt I went way too far and it could have been a good part if I hadn't spewed off a couple of BIs.
Part 3: (25/22/6.9, 3B=10.4) This last part was meant to test a still loose aggressive style with less testing and less spew bluffs. It worked very well and I think this somewhat controlled craziness suits me very well.
