Strangely enough I seem to trip over my health every
third month or so. I got a feeling it's about
three months ago now
It has been a good summer. Unfortunately I didn't lose the weight I usually does over the summer. To whip myself into shape I made a bet about running with a friend from the office.
The bet
Let's put it this way. He is well in shape and probably a very fast runner. I, on the other hand is totally out of shape with no running experience whatsoever. To make this race somewhat fair we agreed on running twice the same day. In the first race he has to run 100m while I have to run only 85m. The winner take down 1000kr (approximately $180). If I win first round we run again but now I have to run 90m against his 100m. We race for another 1000kr. If I should lose the first race I will have to run 80m against 100m in the second race.
We made the bet while having some beers out in the town. None of us realized how much 15m head start is in a 100m race until the next day where we measured up 15m meters in the office. We just looked at each other and started laughing.
What to do
Even though I feel quite confident in the race I don't want to sit back and expect to win. I want to crush him and secondly I want to get into better shape :) Today I went to a shop and bought shoes fit for running and doing other kind of exercises. My plan is to play a little table tennis and start running a little bit every day. At this point I have 20 days to prepare which seems like enough time to raise my performance with maybe 25 percent.
Looking back at this year I have come to the conclusion that I can stay away from pizza, soft drinks with sugar and pastries. Unfortunately I can't/won't drop drinking beer and eating good stuff like pasta, potatoes and gravy. The counter measures will be exercise and lots of it.
