Poker player's Hong Kong & Macau minitravelguide

First of all if you're planning to stay for a longer period, go to Hong Kong instead of Macau. There's nothing interesting in Macau except of casinos while HK is the coolest big city I've ever been.

Getting started from the HK airport:
-You can get a bus to where ever you want in Hong Kong and all the information is in English. Most of the people speak English so getting lost is pretty hard. Bus to central 20-25HKD.
-Airport express (subway) to central 100HKD
-Taxi to central might be around 200-250. Don't know exact because I've never taken it. Taxidrivers in general don't speak English so you should always have you're address written in Cantonese. Starting fee of taxis is 18HKD.
-Normally I've taken taxi to Tung Chung subway=mtr (30HKD) and from there you can get anywhere (around 10HKD). MTR is convenient and cheap. Travelling with MTR is much easier if you get yourself an Octopus card. It doesn't cost you anything, you just have to pay 50HKD deposit and load money to your card. After this you can use your Octopus card in MTR, busses, stores, trams, McDonald's, KFC and for example to entrance fee of Jockey races. It's really a great way to pay your daily purchases.

Poker in HK:
-Hong Kong Poker House:
-Near Lan Kwai Fong in central. 49 Hollywood road 1st floor. http://www.hkph.com.hk/
-Open 8pm-4am every day
-Become a member 500HKD. Includes first night's entrance fee (250HKD)
-After that 250HKD (includes snack+drink) for every time you play, but no rake is taken. Tip after every bigger pot.
-10/20HKD NL is the most popular game. 25/50 HKD NL starts normally after 9pm. Sometimes 50/100 or 100/200NL but not too common. 25/50PLO on tuesdays after 9pm, normally turns to 25/50/100 after midnight.
-+852 2850 8833

-Blueroom:
-Regular 50/100HKD game
-$250 (includes two drinks)
-2/F, 60 Stanley St, Central
-+852 2537 3260

Hong Kong -->Macau
-Ferries go every 15 or 30min from Sheung wan MTR station or from Macau ferry station in Tsim Sha Tsui.
-Price: 130-180HKD. More at night time and in weekends.
-Ferry takes 50min and 10-30min at both ends for passport checks, customs, etc
-Ferries don't go between 4am-7am and it says so at their homepages aswell. Sometimes they go through the night. Don't know how the system works, but it's safer to play/drink couple of hours more and take a later ferry

Macau:
Shuttle bus to every casino from the ferry terminal. People speak less English than in HK and sometimes it's hard to manage in English even in casinos. You can use HKD everywhere and MOPs are pretty useless as casinos use HKD.

Grand Lisboa:
-10/20 and 20/40 games regularly
-Tournaments every day
-Sponsored by PokerStars
-Great service and don't have to wait for the tables

Wynn:
-Pokerroom more comfortable than in Grand Lisboa
-You have to wait for the tables every time
-So far only place where you can play PLO. 50/100 game is on most days. Fridays are busiest days and Sundays most silent

Venetsian:
-HUGE place, got to visit when you go to Macau
-Pokerroom just reopened

Extra:
-World's highest commercial bungee jump, 233m. Got to try (1400HKD)

Been there, done that. It was worth trying and I'd do it again if I go to the tower someday.

I've been in Macau two times and in Hongkong once. I didn't like Hongkong that much but maybe I didn't explore the city enough to see its beauty. Something I remember I hated about Hongkong was pollution. At first the air was almost unbreathable to me but of course I got used to it. In Macau I've played only in Wynn. Last time the games were full of bad regular nits (at least in 50/100 and 100/200 NL) and sometimes some rich aggro maniacs came to lose their stacks.

Im moving to Macau in end of March so I guess i can give you guys some updates from there then. I love both HK and Macau. But it helps go have local friends in HK if u want to go out and eat or partyin.

Been living in Sydney for 5 years now and gottn a little sick of it by now. I got to HK and Macau at least 2-3 times every year. And yes there is more to do in HK then Macau.

The air pollution at both places are about the same. Most of the pollution comes from all the factorys in the pearl river delta. So when there is north winds the air is pretty bad. There is maybe a little more pollution in HK because of cars, but its not alot worse than Macau. With winds from the south the air sound be fine.
Karma will get you!
