The much anticipated return of The Borgata Hotel and Spa as a WPT stop has started to build even more excitement, as the event organizers have announced a guaranteed prize pool of $2 million. The event will have a $3,500 buy-in, so the value of the tournament is incredibly high, due to the fact that many of the other main events scheduled on the WPT have a $10,000 buy-in. The event will be televised and while the payout structure has not been set in stone, there are rumors that the winner will be taking home an even million dollars.
Ray Stefanelli, Borgata director of poker marketing said in a recent interview, “We've seen that Borgata has been able to provide great opportunities for professional players, amateurs, and local pros to participate in a first-class tournament series at a place that is as poker-friendly as any other gaming destination in the country. We believe we've found a sweet spot with the $3,500 buy-in. Working with the WPT for a televised event and the Borgata-sponsored $2 million prize pool will make this an attractive stop for poker players of all types of bankrolls,"
This announcement comes as no surprise, due to the fact that the Borgata is currently undergoing a review of their gaming license in the state of New Jersey due to the partnership with a high profile casino executive in Macau.
