The English high stakes pro Andrew Feldman has taken an unusual case to High Court, demanding his money back from a rabbi who allegedly lost it in spread betting on the Dow Jones index in October 2008.

According to Suffolk Free Press, Feldman had lost £700,000 in poker at the time and his friend, rabbi Simon Nissim (someone that Feldman "looked up to and trusted," says Feldman's lawyer) offered to place bets for him on Dow Jones and give him any winnings.

Now Feldman claims that while the rabbi did place bets for him, Nissim also placed a "considerable number on his own behalf using the same betting account", incurring total losses of £140,000.

Nissim's side of the story is that Feldman had authorised him to play for up to £200,000 and all the bets had been made on Feldman's behalf.

High Court judge Richard Snowden announced he will give his verdict on a later date.
