For those of us that love to watch celebrity poker players go up against their Hollywood counter parts, this is going to be the tournament to watch. The tournament has gained popularity in the last two seasons of the WSOP, mainly because it’s a charity event aimed at solving the current crisis in Darfur, Africa. The event is hosted by Annie Duke and Don Cheadle and counts with the participation of many celebrities such as Sarah Silverman, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Jason Alexander, Nely , Cedric the Entertainer, Dean Cain, as well as sports legends Sir Charles Barkley and Herschel Walker. On the other side of the ring are some of poker’s biggest names, Jennifer Harman, Chris Ferguson, Erik Seidel, Rafe Furst, John Hennigan and Phil Gordon.
The crisis in Darfur is entering its 6th year and there are little signs of change. International humanitarian aid has been expelled from the country and the current president Omar al-Bashir has continued using methods of starvation in order to silence his opponents. Over 400,000 people have reportedly died in the ongoing conflict.
The show will be aired on ESPN on August 11th at 8 p.m. EST and donations can be made at www.enoughproject.org
