The Million Dollar Cash Game in the Aussie Millions is on right now at the Crown Tower of the Crown Casino in Melbourne. As this is a televised cash game, we won't give any spoilers about the results, but here's some background info about the game.
It started out as a heads up match between Patrik Antonius (pictured) and Tom "durrrr" Dwan with the blinds at 1,000/2,000 AUD and a minimum buy-in of 1,000,000 AUD (Patrik bought in for 1.5 million, durrrr for 1 million). The game was half NL Hold'em and half PL Omaha, 20 hands of each in turns. The original plan was to play heads up for a couple of hours before other players would enter, but as it turns out, it took more than 3 hours of heads up play before the ring game finally started.
It seems that Patrik was reluctant to lower the buy-in to make it easier to get other players to join the game, while durrrr was mainly concerned about which stakes would most likely interest Gus Hansen!
According to Pokernews.com, there was a funny moment when Gus did step in the room to see how the game was going. durrrr immediately invited him to the table, but Gus declined because he said he had been drinking. Dwan offered to down some shots himself if that's what it takes. "I'll do two cranberry vodkas. I'll do three. Whatever you think is fair," durrrr coaxed, but Gus wouldn't change his mind. "So close, and yet so far," durrrr sighed when the Dane had left.
Finally it was decided to lower the buy-in to 200,000 AUD and the blinds to 500/1000 AUD with a 200 AUD ante only for hold'em (though Patrik and durrrr continued play with the money they already had in front of them). The other players coming in were Phil Laak, Niki Jedlicka, Andrew Robl and Jamie Pickering, with Chris Ferguson also joining the game a little later.
This will surely be an entertaining show and a rare chance to see PLO played live by the likes of Patrik, durrrr and Andrew "good2cu" Robl, so don't miss the Aussie Millions Million Dollar Cash Game when it comes out!
