Thomas "Boku87" Boekhoff is a German SNG machine on PokerStars and last week he successfully finished a huge challenge: taking $5 and turning it into $100,000 in just one year.
The challenge started last June and Boku's progress has been reported on PokerStars Blog. His first try with a $5 bankroll went bust, but on second try he successfully turned a fiver into a hundred grand.
Half of his winnings came from playing a staggering 45,000 tournaments in less than a year, the other half is from FPP's, Milestone Bonuses and other benefits on PokerStars. Cash games hardly played a part, since only $1,000 came from cash table winnings. Boku started the challenge in June 2009 by playing 2c/4c Limit Hold'em cash games and 10c SNG's.
"It was a much tougher challenge than I expected and I have had to put in a lot of volume lately, but I think I proved that it is possible to turn a very small amount, like $5 in this case, into a very big amount such as the $100,000 I have achieved here, and that it is possible to do that within a year if you put enough effort into it," Boku writes.
If you're interested in Boku's winning recipe, there really are no magic tricks involved here. "The secret to being successful is to continually try to play, always work on your game and try to improve," he says.
Last year Boku managed a similar feat when he turned $100 into $10,000 in just two weeks.
