If you thought poker pros sometimes make some crazy side bets, it's nothing compared to a weird and dangerous new form of gambling investigated by Bulgarian police. Apparently a game called "Russian road roulette" has caused deaths and general mayhem in the streets of the Bulgarian capital Sofia this year.

In Russian road roulette, drivers jump red lights in busy intersections during night time and try not to hit other vehicles or pedestrians. Onlookers make bets on the result.

Participants in the game are informed of the night's venue and police patrols via text messages. Bets have been said to climb as high as €5,000 ($7,400).

In June, two people were killed when a motorcyclist crashed into onlookers during a race. Since then police have been playing cat and mouse with the organizers of the races.

What can we say - people in Bulgaria must be pretty bored with their lives?
