PokerStars EPT Copenhagen winner Anton Wigg says that his parents have always been worried about their poker playing son, so the win makes him extra happy for a special reason. "Hopefully they will now stop nagging me about going to study for a proper job," he says to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.
22-year old Wigg says the winner's prize, nearly €500,000 is a life changing sum for him - in more ways than one. "I have played professionally for three years but as my parents don't know how poker works, they have always thought that you need a big tournament win to succeed. Luckily I got it now," he says to Aftonbladet.
It isn't all celebrations to the Wigg family, though, for Anton's grandmother passed away on the following Monday after the tournament. "She had been bedridden for a long time, so her passing wasn't a surprise but it's still sad," he says.
Going back to the tournament, Wigg says he didn't like the excessive celebrations of his heads up opponent Francesco De Vivo when the Italian sucked out twice with worse hands and took a crushing lead at one point. "I don't like players who act like that at the table, so it was sweet to come back and beat him. I think I played very well," he says.
