The EPT Berlin robbers broke all records in stupidity, say the German police. The apparent amateur gang is still on the run, but the police are predicting they will soon be caught.
The robbers entered the casino like any decent crooks should - masked in hoods - but they made a cardinal error just minutes before that. It turns out they stopped at a nearby McDonald's for a bite, and the security cameras in the premises captured their mugs in all their glory. Reportedly the pictures show their faces clearly, so identifying the gang is just a matter of time.
"You have to have a couple of screws loose to act like that," says police spokesman Rainer Wendt.
In a video taken during the robbery (see below), you can see an unarmed security guard called Roman throwing objects at the robbers and then wrestling one of them in the ground. However, he had to let go of the man when one of his pals threatened him with a machete.
"I acted purely on instinct," said Roman. "But when his accomplice came at me with a machete I had to let go of him. Naturally it irritates me but I had to protect my own life in the situation."
