The incredibly irresponsible actions of a British lorry driver led to a fatal crash on a motorway - and a jail sentence for the driver who had been playing Facebook poker while driving.

Lorry driver Stephen Cook, 42, from Porthcawl, Wales, had the bright idea of playing play-money poker on Facebook while driving on the M25 in September 2009 and did not notice that traffic was queuing up ahead of him. He hit the back of a Vauxhall Astra which in turn smashed against a van that had stopped by the shoulder of the road. The driver of the Vauxhall died for his injuries two days later.

"The utterly irresponsible actions of Stephen Cook led to dreadful consequences," police representative summed it up in court. Cook was sentenced to five years in prison.
