FTOPS XIV Event 1, the $216 NL Hold'em 6-max ended in a win for Kory "s00tedj0kers89" Kilpatrick; congrats to him, but the really interesting part in this one is probably one of the strangest deals ever made in a high profile online poker tournament. There were 4 players left when s00tedj0kers89 was left with the task of typing the deal for the others to see, and he got his fellow players to accept a pretty innovative design.

Here is the deal in table format, first the player's name, then his stack at the time of the deal, and finally what was agreed upon by everyone:

kev19

13.1 million

$115,000

nolez7

4.5 million

$98,600

s00tedj0kers89

3.2 million

$110,000

taaffey

2.7 million

$80,000

As you can see, it’s not exactly according to ICM at the moment. The tournament had been going on for around the clock and more, people were tired etc, but still it’s hard to understand why would kev19 or nolez7 accept something like that.

There is also some controversy, as apparently there was $10k missing from the calculations and s00tedj0kers89 added that to himself at the last moment, thus ensuring himself $110k and not $100k as was agreed upon (if it had been done according to ICM, he was due just $83k). There is a discussion about it going on at 2+2 here, meanwhile here's some interesting parts.

s00tedj0kers89 gives his own view of the proceedings here:

“When we started discussing a deal, I said that I wanted 100k and didn't care who else got what, so I wasn't paying much attention to them making the deal/working out numbers etc. I got them to give me control of the deal, cause they couldn't figure out how to work it somehow, and when they did, I typed in the amounts for everyone that were being discussed. When I put everyone's amounts in, they all said that they accepted the amount they have. I didn't realize until I couldn't submit the deal that there was 10k left out (I thought it was the 10k that we were leaving to play for). When I realized this, I proposed that I got the additional 10k, since everyone else was happy with the number they had, and everyone accepted.

I didn't click their accept buttons for them. All the numbers were right in front of their face for them to look at, review, and agree to. I proposed a deal and they accepted it.

Anyone questioning my character/ethics/etc., can gtfo"

taaffey, in 4th place at the time of the deal, has this to say:

“that was shady as f.uck. i lost 3k from ICM but sooted just shipping in an extra 10k after agreeing to 100k is so dbaggish.

with that said, we agreed - we pressed the button so the onus is obviously on us for not noticing - i was just so fed up with the re.tards trying to operate the chop system i just looked at my number and pressed ok. i'm a midstakes grinder and its 80k. sure i might have gotten a little screwed but i don't think i had an edge - btw it was 9:30 am my time and i wasn't of sound mind.

kev got really screwed, but sooted putting an extra 10k for himself was slimy. a dbag. we agreed to 100k in chat. **** him”

Pretty epic, that’s all we can say.

For the record, another $10k was left for the winner, and s00tedj0kers89 took that, too, after defeating kev19 heads up, so he finally made $120,000 from the tournament.

UPDATE: After getting much contempt on 2+2, s00tedj0kers89 had second thoughts and gave back $2,500 apiece to the other 3 players.
