As we reported, Full Tilt Poker tried to set a new record for the largest online tournament on Sunday. However, their rival and online poker giant PokerStars decided to prove why they are the number one poker room by throwing a $1 buy-in record-breaking tournament... on the same day!!
The tournament at Full Tilt attracted 50,000 players whereas at PokerStars the tournament gathered 65,000 players. PokerStars offered a similar tournament for a fraction of the price (buy-in at Full Tilt was $5 and at PokerStars it was $1).
Another factor why Full Tilt was not successful was because they made the mistake of capping the tournament at 50,000.
The word is Full Tilt will attempt to set a record again with a smaller buy-in, luckily for players they are the ones benefitting the most with huge prize pools.
