High stakes cash game pro David Oppenheim recently commented the Big Game at Bellagio during the WSOP, saying the games were probably the biggest in Las Vegas since Andy Beal.
"There was a million dollar pot every hour," Oppenheim said to the Swedish Pokermagazine.se.
Andy Beal is the mega wealthy Texan banker who challenged the top pros in Vegas to a huge heads up Limit Hold'em match. Beal was a very competent player, but reportedly he lost tens of millions to the "Corporation" formed by Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey, Jennifer Harman and other top pros.
Coming back to present day, Oppenheim (pictured) says there was a 2k/4k or 3k/6k mixed game and a 1k/2k PLO game running every night. And that was just for starters. According to Ilari Sahamies, Chinese poker was played up to $20,000 per point. The biggest mixed game was reportedly 4k/8k and PLO was played even at 2k/4k.
Doyle Brunson has given praise to the Finnish players (Ilari, Sami Kelopuro & co.) in his blog, saying they were the nicest guys ever. However, Doyle was not all pleased with the Finnish contingent, commenting to Poker Magazine, "They hurt the poker economy in this town." None of the Finns live in Vegas, which means they took away money from the tables when they left town.
