So what kind of a birthday present would you give a man who lives by green values, has never owned a car in his life, and loves fishing? If you ask Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies, it would naturally be a used car with absolutely no green values in it.
The unsuspecting recipient of Ilari's affections was his good friend, the Finnish movie actor Jasper Pääkkönen who recently held a private party for 150 people at the Kaivohuone restaurant in Helsinki to celebrate his 30th birthday. Jasper is known for his love of fishing so many guests gave him fishing gear or books for a present, and as he is a man who lives by green values, someone fittingly gave him an electric scooter. Other presents included a helmet (to go with the scooter) and a free hot balloon ride. Ilari had other ideas for his friend.
"He gave me a used Peugeot 405 with 248,000 km in the odometer," Jasper laughs. The last model of this car to be imported to Finland was the 1995 model and it probably went for less than €1,000, but what the hell is Jasper going to do with a car?
"I've never owned a car in my life and I never will, so we decided to sell the car and use the money for some fun together," he explains.
Wise decision, and a happy ending to this story!
