WSOP Player of the Year 2006, Jeff Madsen got a taste of tournament success once again taking down the Borgata Winter Poker Open for $625,006 on Saturday. The tournament, which used to be part of the World Poker Tour, lowered its' buy-in to $3,500 and as a result attracted a field of 766.
At heads up stage Madsen beat Sirous Jamshidi, who said he was happy with 2nd place money but complained of going totally card dead when heads up stage started with even stacks. Madsen took down lots of small pots, until Jamshidi finally pushed with Q2s but got looked up by KT. The board came king high to give Madsen the title.
"I've had success in the past but it feels good to get these big wins," Madsen said to Borgata Poker Blog. He also said this win "shows me all my hard work is paying off when it comes to working on my game."
Still just 24-years old, Madsen arrived in the tournament scene with a bang when he scored two bracelets and two 3rd places at his first WSOP in 2006. With this win his total tournament winnings amass to more than 3 million dollars.
