Liv Boeree took down her first major event yesterday in San Remo after defeating Jakob Carlsson heads up. Her price: €1,250,000 and the honor of being only the third woman to win an EPT title.

"I can't even speak," Boeree gasped in the winner's interview, but managed to say that winning is incredible and everybody played well at the final table.

Heads up between Boeree and Carlsson was set when Boeree busted young Toni Pettersson (playing in his first live event) in third place after flopping bottom set against his top pair good kicker. Boeree started in a 23.2m to 14.1m lead. Carlsson regained the chip lead briefly but the players were back to square one when Boeree won a very nice pot with a turned straight: she raised preflop, semibluffed the flop, and then bet the turn and river and got check-called all the way down by Carlsson: Boeree 43s, Carlsson A8 and the board ran As Tc 2c 5s Js.

A few hands later it was finished when Carlsson 3-bet all-in preflop and got called:

Carlsson A6
Boeree 55

The board came KT8 7 J and Boeree's win was sealed when her fives held.

Liv Boeree is a 25-year old poker pro from London. She got hooked on poker 4 years ago when she was an astrophysics student (with fellow finalist Michael Piper) at the University of Manchester but took part in a reality tv show where the contestants were playing poker. She also plays the guitar and is big on heavy metal. After this win her total tournament cashes exceed $1.9 million.

Previously Victoria Coren and Sandra Naujoks have won EPT main events.
