Tom Dwan has started his heads up match with an unnamed Chinese gambler in Macau. According to the latest info the Team Full Tilt pro has had an unlucky start and he is down approximately $1.3 million.

The report comes from Ballermagazine.com who have gotten eye witness reports from Winfred Yu, manager of the Poker King Club at Starworld Casino where the game runs. The game is NL Hold'em with blinds 10k/20k HKD ($650/$1,300). Dwan bought in for 18 million HKD but started with a downswing. He made a brief comeback and was up a little bit at one point, but then went on another bad run and was currently down by 10 million HKD ($1.3 million). Apparently he is down for the whole trip to Macau.

There is a special condition that Dwan had to accept before the Chinese businessman agreed to play: at the end of every hand both players have to show their cards even if the hand did not go to showdown.

Winfed Yu says that while it's not easy for top pros to get an invitation to the game, players like Dwan are generally welcome. "He gives action. He is in almost every pot. They would prefer to play against him heads-up than say Phil Ivey," Yu explains to Ballermagazine.com.

According to Yu, Dwan's opponent has come to play in Macau for a couple of years now and is down about 100 million HKD ($13 million). But like other losing supergamblers, he is by no means easy money for a player like Dwan. As he doesn't care about the money and has no fear of losing, he is able to constantly force his opponent into difficult decisions with huge overbets.

Yu is also a high stakes player and a regular at the Starworld games, but says that even he is not always welcome to the biggest game. However, he explains, "Players who are interested in big games can play at our 1,000/2,000 or 2,000/4,000 HKD games which are not private. The action is often just as good and they are run on a daily basis." (The bigger version of this game is approximately $260/$520.)

Some pictures from Macau have been posted on the 2+2 thread about the game. In this picture, John Juanda sits at the table behind a large stack.
