Rumours and speculation on Phil Ivey's side bets and possible bonus payments have been going on and on since he booked his place in the November Nine. Parttimepoker.com has published a story saying that Main Event win could be worth more than 20 million dollars for Ivey.
The sum adds up like this:
- Prize money for first place $8.5 million.
- Bonus payment from Full Tilt Poker $10 million. There is no confirmation on this, but supposedly it's based on the $10m that FTP has promised for any of their satellite winners who went on to take the title. Presumably their own pros have the same deal.
- Confirmed side bet win from Tom Dwan $1 million.
- Confirmed side bet win from Andy Bloch $2 million. Bloch has stated that he took 99:1 for $20,000 with 2,400 players left in the tournament.
Put together, that makes $21.5 million if Ivey can beat the other 8 players at the table. And probably he has many more side bets besides those mentioned here. Phil Gordon has said that Andy Bloch is sweating 20 times worse than him, so probably that means Gordon will have to pay about $100k, and possibly there are other players in similar spots.
And remember, Ivey has already won two bracelets this year and according to rumours he made anywhere from 2 to 12 million in side bets for those wins.
So, if all goes well, in November he may have won more than $33 million in this year's WSOP.
