The NBC National Heads Up Championship has finished and we have the new champion in one of the most popular tv tournaments.
The final pairing was Annie Duke vs Erik Seidel after they had beaten Dennis Phillips and Scotty Nguyen respectively. Played in best-out-of-three format, the final went to three rounds before Duke managed to beat Erik Seidel 2-1 and take her first major title since 2004 when she won both her first WSOP bracelet and the WSOP Tournament of Champions. In the very last hand of the event, Seidel's A2 could not find a way past Duke's pocket nines and the match was settled.
On her way to the final, Duke met several players who have made their breakthrough at the WSOP Main Event in recent years: after defeating Andy Bloch in Round 1 she was up against Darvin Moon, Paul Wasicka, Jerry Yang and Dennis Phillips.
Annie Duke's first tournament cashed date all the way back to 1994. In total she has now cashed more than $4.2 million. Besides her playing skills, she is known as the sister of Howard Lederer and a long-time representative of UltimateBet (or UB).
