The GSN channel will start airing a new kind of poker show next week, called Doubles Poker Championship where players are teaming up as pairs like in last year's Caesars Cup.
GSN has previously brought us poker shows like the ever popular High Stakes Poker. In Doubles Poker Championship, both players are making decisions in a hand but independently, first player playing preflop and on the turn while his partner plays the flop and river.
Doubles play was part of the mix in last year's Caesars Cup where the European team led by Annette Obrestad beat the Americas team led by Daniel Negreanu. Patrik Antonius and Ilari Sahamies took part in the doubles game. Antonius talked to Coinflip.com before the start of the tournament and mentioned that he didn't like the idea at all. "What if I call on the flop believing that there is often a chance to take down the pot with a bluff on later streets, but my pair doesn't see it that way and just folds on the turn?" Patrik said. However, Patrik played with Ilari and beat Phil Ivey and Huck Seed in their match.
In Doubles Poker Championship, viewers will have a chance to see if some well known pros' poker thinking is on the same wavelength. The show starts airing next week and at least the following players are confirmed: Tom Dwan, Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Johnny Chan, Gus Hansen, Chris Ferguson, Mike Matusow, Annie Duke, Annette Obrestad, David Benyamine (pictured), Antonio Esfandiari, Howard Lederer, and Phil Laak.
