Nick Schulman took down his first bracelet and the title of World Champion at the $10k NL 2-7 Draw. The field of 96 players was the smallest at the WSOP but what it lacked in numbers was made up in talent. The final table was one of the toughest in WSOP history, featuring Steve Sung, John Juanda, David Benyamine, Michael Binger, and the Las Vegas legend Archie Karas.
Schulman's heads up opponent, however, was the Finnish sensation Ville Wahlbeck, who incredibly made his third final table and fourth money finish at this year's $10k events, putting him in the lead in the WSOP Player of the Year race.
Schulman's win was settled with Wahlbeck's unlucky bluff: Schulman opened for 75k, Wahlbeck raised to 250k, call. Both players took one card and Wahlbeck pushed all-in, but Schulman had made the nut hand 75432, Wahlbeck had only 99852.
Nick Schulman is 24 and he has previously won one WPT title and made one final table at WSOP events. His total tournament cashes are now $3.8 million.
