Disturbing news for online poker again, this time from South Africa where a local high court has ruled all online gambling illegal. According to the laws in the country, operators and even players could be fined more than 1 million euro or jailed for 10 years.
So, in a country where the crime rate is one of the ugliest in the world, playing poker at your home is apparently considered one of the worst crimes of all.
The decision was made by the North Gauteng high court, and it has prompted the Gauteng Gambling Board to announce that they will fight all forms of online gambling and report all operators to the police.
According to CardPlayer.com, maximum penalty for online gambling operators and even players is fines up to 10 million rand (1.07 million euros) and/or 10 years prison.
