The last of the 6 heats was marked by tactical play as players sometimes made weird looking laydowns because of the league standings. However, the heat came to a refreshlingly sporting conclusion when Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth made it to heads up stage. With Hellmuth's win both players would make it to the second stage and knock out JC Tran, but Negreanu didn't care about this and instead played for the win.
In the last hand Hellmuth made moves at the wrong time. The chips were almost even when Hellmuth limped from the button. Negreanu raised to 180k, Hellmuth moved all-in and Negreanu snap-called. Hellmuth turned over K9s, Negreanu had AA, and the flop gave Hellmuth only a back-door flush draw. When the turn blanked it was all over, and JC Tran - who was sweating the outcome - gave Negreanu a hug to thank him.
