New Orleans Saints' surprise win at the Super Bowl may have proven costly to a lot of high stakes gamblers, as it seems most of the Las Vegas big bettors' money was going on Indianapolis Colts. According to rumors, Phil Ivey placed a mega bet of $2 million on the Colts at the MGM Mirage sports book.
The casino's sports book director Jay Rood did not deny or verify the rumors but simply said to Las Begas Review Journal, "We took a seven-figure bet on the Colts money line."
This wouldn't be the first time that Ivey loses megabucks on an unlucky finals bet. In 2008 he was reported to have lost also $2 million on Los Angeles Lakers at the NBA finals.
Reportedly most of the professional sports bettors had faith in the Colts and their quarterback Peyton Manning, too, though many of them were playing it both ways by taking the Colts moneyline and Saints with the points.
Super Bowl is the highlight in the US sports betting calendar. Before this year's game the Las Vegas sports books were estimating that action will exceed last year's $81.5 million but not break the record of $94.5 million set in 2006.
