Poker superstar and in many people's mind the best player in the world right now, Phil Ivey did what was expected of him and collected his sixth WSOP bracelet at Event #8, $2.5k NL 2-7 Draw despite starting the final table as one of the short stacks.

Ivey's first place prize is a relatively low $96,361 but in truth he will collect possibly a seven figure from his fellow high stakes players after placing numerous side bets on winning a bracelet at this year's series. According to one source, he was heard saying that for him the difference between 1st and 2nd place was "close to 3 million".

It didn't come easy though, as his heads up opponent John Monnette put up fierce resistance and after doubling up twice in row, he had Ivey dangerously low on chips at one point in the match. But Ivey fought back and took the lead again, and then we finally saw the decisive hand after three and a half hours of heads up play:

Monnette raised, Ivey pushed all-in, call. Both players announced they will draw one card and turned over their hands: Ivey 7642, Monnette 9752. The crowd were on their toes as Monnette showed his card first: it was a 7 which meant his hand was already dead against Ivey's 7 high. For good measure, Ivey drew a 5 and finished the tournament with a top hand 76542.

Phil Ivey becomes the eleventh player to have won at least 6 bracelets. He didn't stop to celebrate it for long, as after handshakes and posing for photographers he rushed to another corner of the Amazon Room to take his seat at the $10k Mixed Event!
