Online players were warned last week of an attempted phishing scam exploiting the reputation of one of the largest online gambling sites, bwin.
According to CasinoListings.com, a number of bwin players received e-mails claiming that they were eligible to a raffle with large cash prizes. However, the link contained in the e-mail led to a site called bwimpoker.com (note the M). Anyone attempting to login to their bwin account via this link actually just sent their login information to the scammers.
After the fake login, the customers even received another e-mail asking them to deposit $500 before the raffle prize can be claimed. The fraud was made even more obvious with the proviso that the customer must not login to bwin for the next four days after the deposit.
According to CasinoListings.com, bwin is investigating the issue with the authorities. The fake site was promptly taken offline.
