On Tuesday the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) ran a charity tournament to benefit the USO. Many poker pros attended the event to support the fund-raising efforts.
The tournament was announced as a free buy-in with $100 re-buys. Players had to be completely out of chips to re-buy. Players Annie Duke and Howard Lederer re-bought four times in the first thirty minutes, adding more money to the cause.
Most of the pros were being generous, re-buying themselves and also paying for the re-buys of the 35 veterans who were playing from the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
180 players attended the event and the top 24 would receive a form of payout. The two grand prizes were a $1,900 gift certificate to the World Series of Poker Academy and round trip vacation for two to Las Vegas with all accommodations included.
The tournament managed to raise $35,000 that were donated to the USO.
