Prahlad Friedman made a strong comeback to the poker elite taking down the WPT Legends of Poker event and $1,009,000 prize money at the Bicycle Casino on Tuesday. At heads up stage he defeated Kevin Schaffel, a November Niner this year.
In the last hand Schaffel opened for 300k, Friedman raised to 800k. Schaffel tanked for a while before pushing all-in for approximately 3,600k. Friedman had AQ, but he would have been crippled if he lost the hand so it was by no means an easy call. Finally he put his chips in the middle and turned over his hand, and to his relief Schaffel showed KJ. The board came all blanks and Friedman's win was sealed.
Prahlad Friedman is a WSOP winner and a few years back he was one of the most feared online cash game players. He has spent a couple of years away from the limelight but this time the poker world will have to take notice again.
Runner-up Kevin Schaffel was playing at his first live tournament after securing his place at the WSOP Main Event final table in July. It is safe to say the man is running hotter than the sun, but after this defeat he is still seeking his first big win. Another November Niner, Steven Begleiter also made a strong run but had to settle for 9th place.
Todd Terry and Toto Leonidas took the next spots at the tough final table.
1. Prahlad Friedman $1.009.000
2. Kevin Schaffel $471.670
3. Todd Terry $231.300
4. Toto Leonidas $144.600
5. Sam Stein $116.225
6. Mike Krescanko $89.220
Next stop for the WPT is at the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City in September.
