Young British player Toby Lewis proved strongest at the tough final table at the PokerStars EPT Vilamoura and took down the biggest cash in his career, a very handsome €467,835 after beating the Swede Martin Jacobson heads up.
Before this triumph Lewis had a long list of smaller cashes mainly in British tournaments. At Vilamoura he started heads up trailing by 4.4m to 7.1m to Jacobson. Lewis started strongly and took a clear lead, but after Jacobson doubled up with pocket sevens vs A8 it was back to square one. Finally the game was decided with a setup: Lewis opened for 160k, Jacobson called. Flop AT9 rainbow went check-check. Five on the turn was the action card: Jacobson bet 180k, Lewis raised to 525k, Jacobson 3-bet to 1.2m, Lewis 4-bet to 2m. Finally Jacobson went all-in and Lewis quickly called. Turn had hit both players, Jacobson making two pair with 95 but Lewis turning a set with 55. Ten on the river sealed the win for Lewis.
Sam Trickett came 4th, and the former football pro Teddy Sheringham made the biggest cash in his poker career, €93,120 for 5th place. Rob Hollink had to settle for 7th place.
