Us mortals may find it comforting to watch this video from the ESPN broadcast (Episode 27) from this year's WSOP Main Event. A player makes a rookie-like error and mucks a winning hand in a significant pot, not realising he has rivered a flush.

And it's not just any rookie who has won his seat in a $50 online satellite, but Phil Ivey.

The hand starts with Ivey raising with 8s 8d, Jordan Smith 3-bets from the big blind with Ad 9c, Ivey calls. The players check to the river with the board reading Qh Ts 5s Qs As. After the final round of checks, Smith announces "Ace" and Ivey waits until he has seen his opponent's cards - and then mucks his hand.

Ivey seems to realise his mistake right away and looks like he's just seen a ghost. The pot is more than 2 million, approximately one quarter of his stack and one fifth of the tournament average, so Ivey could really have used those extra chips.

(The hand starts approximately 5 minutes into the video.)
